ABOUT DAVID C. MUNSON
I grew up in the hills of Los Gatos, California, and developed a deep connection with and love of nature. School was easy for me and I received praise for my good grades. I enjoyed creative writing and reading adventure books. My parents never divorced and I lived in only two houses throughout my childhood.
At the age of 18, I began experiencing depression for the first time as a high school senior. In my early years at college I suffered severe anxiety and depression. By 21, I suffered a total nervous breakdown and had to stop doing everything and go home and slowly and gently re-create myself.
I came to find that my greatest allies in the quest for mental health were running and bike riding. Marijuana, though fun at times, seemed to do more harm than good as far as my health was concerned. A long run or bike ride would set me straight in my head, help remind me of my dreams and goals, and leave me feeling good from all the endorphins in my system.
Today I maintain my health by staying connected with and supportive of my two beautiful children. My physical and mental health also benefit from my ping-pong group, my soccer group, my radio show connection, my dance group, and all my amazing friends and family. The skills I have developed for mind management so that I control my thoughts instead of them controlling me is also very helpful. Connection and service and exercise seems to be the holy trinity of health. Spending time in nature and in solitude have endless health benefits in my life also.
My life story is like your life story, a life of learning and loving and growing, one sweet deep breath at a time.
